IMO 16M is enough to make a good-looking large print. Of course more resolution is better, but 16M is (current!) my personal benchmark for high image quality.

This is why the 36M pixel sensor seems by far the more preferable of the two. It will have about 16M on an APS-C crop, so it will be capable with both APS-C and FF lenses.
