Turn garage into 'make-shift' studio

I started this hobby planning on taking pictures outside. but doing more research, I gained some interest in studio photography...

I have a spare bedroom (for now) that I could use. However it's small. I also have a nice garage that is all for me to use (I get to have 2 man caves) once I pull my car out of there I have a nice long 1 car garage that's about 18x11 (or 23x10) that I can utilize as a studio... (10 feet high)

Would this work for some decent photography?

I was thinking I might be able to mount something up high that I can drape down seamless paper backdrops.

and if it did work (I don't see why not) what are some essential equipment I need? I've seen plenty of good vids on youtube that proved an umbrella, soft boxes and speedlights will create some good studio photography (portraits)

thoughts on this? anyone do anythings similar?

as far as purpose goes. it's for personal hobby. I might be photographing objects, maybe people and that's about it. very basic stuff as a hobby that I might utilize once a month if that.
