My EOS M Adventure

I originally bought the EOS M as an additional, 2nd body to replace my Powershot during the 2013 pre-summer firesale in Germany. Already after the first sessions I was deeply impressed by the IQ and came to love this small camera, so I bought the other EF-M lenses and the adapter, too.

The small size and low weight of the EOS M LIBERATED my way of performing photography, especially during travel and family life which I shoot mostly. My photographic gear has never been so pleasant and uncomplicated to carry as with the M-system.

Now all I wish for is a M3 with top-notch AF performance and some EF-M fix focals!

IQ is as good as it was with my 18MP 7D, but it could still use some improvement in lower noise.

Positives:

  • IQ is on par with other 18 MP Canon DSLRs
  • good color
  • responsive & useful touch screen
  • UI is intuitive for Canon user
  • small, light and unobtrusive body
  • looks good
  • great lenses, most interesting focal range is now covered as EF-M mount and AF support:
    11-22mm
    18-55mm
    55-200mm
    18-200mm (Tamron)
    22mm fix focal
  • 90EX flash can work as master for wireless flash
  • low cost after rebates (originally rather expensive)
  • low noise up to ISO 800

Negative issues:

  • blackout time between shots is too long
  • AF speed must be better
  • AF field is too large and indecisive when taking close ups or macros.
A spot AF would be great
  • Due to lack of viewfinder prone to shake/blur with longer focal length (>100mm) despite image stabilization.
  • battery life is low (I have 3 additional accus as backup)
  • visible noise starting at ISO 1600

May THE LIGHT be with you!
