The Mysterious Hump

First time since 2009 and the K-7 Pentax has changed something in its camera design: welcome the mysterious hump of the bedazzled!

This mysterious hump is yet another Pentax classic, only real and visible "news" that something may be going on after the usual 4-5 years of hiatus. Boy, these guys from Itabashi-ku, Tokyo, know to make their fans go mad!

So after 4 and half years they gave us a .. hump.

A big sensation, even bigger news. Web forums are boiling. What is hidden beneath? Internet is searched thoroughly, all recent patents examined. Yes, that must be it: a secret, super hi-tech component that will help Pentax try another Hail Mary pass, over all of its competitors! Nothing short of a miracle, that will make Earth spin itself in an opposite direction, change the climate and thus charge the constant downwards spiral of the brand with new gusts of wind and lift it up ... finally!

A headphone socket? O boy, no, it cannot be that. It cannot be such a mundane thing "which anyone could do". It must be something else. It must be.

It better be.

(Because who'd go through one more disappointment.)

LOL, prospective camera buyer disappointed by the purpose of a hump. That's gotta be a first!

They really should have released this yesterday.

Does anyone know why?

Come on...

Hey Zvonimir! Zvonimir, Zvonimir, Zvonimir, Zvonimir, Zvonimir!!! What day was it yesterday?

Which obviously means it will deliver the K-1 full frame in less than 9 months.

While I would like to believe it is a mic or headphone jack, there is no reason for this unless Pentax has made some DRASTIC changes to movie mode. As someone who *does* dabble in video and film, I would love to see this feature improved on Pentax DSLRs!
LOL.

And by that you mean the hole in the bump is to be used again :D

If they redesign it completely, people will complain their accessories no longer work. Are Pentax users the biggest cry-babies or what?

The sexual life of a camel

is stranger than anyone thinks.

It accounts for the hump on the camel

and the inscrutable smile on the sphynx.

I couldn't CARE LESS about it having a headphone jack! A jack to allow hooking up a stereo mike for when recording video might be nice, since the K-5 was THE ONLY CAMERA in its class that didn't either have built-in stereo mikes OR an external connection, OR both.

But what I REALLY wanna see is a connection to TETHER the new camera to an external computer or monitor when shooting (i.e. laptop, pad, etc.), which has been SORELY LACKING and is a SERIOUS issue for many professional photographers! I was just out shooting some pics this morning... Even before 10 a.m. in the first week of October it was getting difficult to accurately see my pictures on the LCD. I'm really serious about this... IF the "K-3" doesn't come with pro-level features like tethering, I'll be heading in other directions. Pentax has LONG produced the best product for the consumer's dollar -- including for many professional photographers. If that's going to change here in the digital age, so be it. But I hope it doesn't. I hope the "K-3" blows us all away with all the features we've been waiting for. If it has tethering, better buffering, preferably a dual card slot, better metering and focusing and a few other improvements I can never recall when I'm posting, well, I'll be all over it. The K-5II now has the best low-light focusing in the APS-C world, matched even by only ONE FF camera -- one of the $6,000 pro models. If the "K-3" keeps that and adds a few more goodies, I'll be doing my happy dance!

Just in case, I've been paying down my Amazon account, lol... Got LOTS of breathing room in there at the moment.

Every Pentax since the k10d has been capable of tethering.

Only they elected not to take the software/licence.

For anyone who need tethering there has been options for anyone willing ot look.

One of the few cameras that can tether from multiple OS's

Microsoft

Linux

Android

All available

As for 'professional' need why would you by a tool that doesn't meet you needs to support you livelihood ?

You can draw your own conclusion...

One thing for sure, the camera phone or software used to distort the bejabbers out of the new camera is pretty wacked. Note the very different view, especially the angle of the mode dial. It'll look much more normal with undistorted normal images when the camera is finally outed.

It has to be that big. Remember PK has to be compatible for 50 years back. :-)

Cheers.

Pentax is releasing a new camera and all anyone can talk about is a frigg'n bump...... Classic.

Damn good thing it doesn't have a dimple. Not sure if the K-mount crowd could handle a dimple.
