How do i explain to someone its not about megapixels ?

That's not a fair comparison anyway. Nowadays my daylight snap using full-frame plus L-lens will not look much different than a snap from the latest Nokia camera phone, even when zooming in.

It was the 'impression' that the DSLr would give the better results was the point. Perception is harder to deal with than facts... unfortunately.

It's when things like versatility, DoF, low-light and the rest come into play that large-sensor cameras really show their worth.

No disagreement there.
