Some SEL-1670Z on NEX-7 test shots and 1855 comparison

Hi all,

Here are some examples of the test shots I took with the new 16-70mm zoom (I can post more if anybody is interested)

and a quick comparison to the 18-55 kit lens.

I took all shots handheld with good daylight, because this is how I use the camera in real life.

My observations:

I don't see a noticeable difference in contrast or colour to the kittens. Sharpness in the center is slightly better, but edges are always softer.

I have firmware 1.01 which is about 1 year old and in camera correction works fine for this lens. (was it already implemented in this firmware version or does the lens contain the data and communicates it to the camera?)

I don't understand why (when focussing on a subject far away) objects close by (even at f/4.0) are sharp and the edges (corners) further away are soft. Is this field curvature? And is one edge (right usually) being softer caused by de-centring of lens elements? It is not always the same side of the image, could it be OOS?What do you think?

I have returned the lens and will wait until I can get a better copy.
