The good bits are great...

This is a summary after 7 months use of the NEX-6 + 16-50 OSS.

This camera meets the prime consideration - it takes great pictures, clear, detailed, good saturation & not particularly noisy. However you want to measure it, this camera delivers very good photos. I was also impressed by the kit lens, I wasn't expecting too much (it's a kit lens & it's TINY) but it has performed really well, even against my fussy standards. It may be that I got lucky & received an exceptionally good copy. The OSS is also good, I've shot photos around 35mm focal length at 1/5 sec & been surprised that so many came out acceptable.

On the subject of lenses I can recommend the Sigma 2.8/30mm as a normal prime & the Samyang 2.8/8mm fisheye - ultimate wide angle!

The camera works pretty well in the hand, it is fast enough not to get in the way. The EVF is fine but can't match a good quality pentaprism, I like the folding screen & often shoot from waist level, which makes a very unobtrusive option for street photography. So far so good...

Now for the bad: as mentioned elsewhere Sony has really missed a trick by not exploiting both wheel controls & the user interface generally feels designed by a committee of people who don't really understand photography. I use this as a lightweight camera for when I don't want to schlep my Pentax K-5 & lenses, if the NEX-6 was my main camera I'd find it rather frustrating. The Sony app store is a huge insult - I paid good money for the camera & am delighted that Sony will develop new functionality for it but I am not going to keep paying for features that should be included. For one thing giving us apps would compensate for the weak UI. I hope no one buys them & Sony gives up on this nonsense.

In conclusion this is a great high-end consumer package or second (or 3rd...) camera for enthusiasts & professionals. It takes great photos & if Sony ever opened up the OS (it's meant to be based on Linux after all) & let people rewrite the UI it would be a great tool.
