The XF 18-55mm F2.8-4 - Very Pleased

I shoot with the big guns for clients, but for my personal projects and street work, I'm now using the Fuji X system.  I am very impressed with the 18-55 Fuji zoom.  It is generally quite sharp throughout the zoom range for a given aperture.  At 35mm, the 18-55 may not be quite up to the level of the Fuji 35mm prime (which I also have), but overall the 18-55 does very well.  At 23mm, well... keep reading :-O.  This lens is a bargain when you consider the build quality, image stabilization, reasonably fast f/2.8-f/4 speed (faster than most in this focal length range), and consistent performance through the whole zoom range.  Few lenses in this category are sharp at their maximum focal length.  I found the Fuji zoom to be very good, especially when I think back about how soft some of the Lumix zooms were at max focal length when I was using that system.  The real kicker was when I compared the Fuji 18-55, set at 23mm, mounted on my X-E1 to my Fuji X100s with its fixed prime 23mm f/2 Fuji lens.  Shooting both cameras at ISO 400 and f/8, the Fuji 18-55 (at 23mm) was slightly better than the X100s' 23mm lens.  Not a big difference, but generally sharper overall, especially towards the edges of the field.  I would have been pleased if the zoom had come "close" to the X100S' prime, but to be better, even marginally, was a surprise that confirmed in my mind just how good this lens really is.
