Powershot G5 Hoax of the Month

Thanks gregg. It was a difficult task setting up several different web sites all over the world to get these picture and ads on. We spent several weekends working on the pictures and ads so they looked like they were from different online retailers in different languages. I must say it was challenging learning to read and write in French and German to pull this hoax off. Then last week we had to hack the offcial Canon Belgium and Netherlands web site (we were going to do the Rusian Canon site, but their alphabets a *****) to post the G5 information, which turn out to be easier then we thought. It cost us several thousand dollars, and a few hundred labor hours. This project kept my freaks away from flying our black helecopters around the country on all our other goverment conspiracy work. Thanks for the five gold stars. This is the third best job we have pulled off after our Elvis hoax (he's actually alive and working with us) and the 1969 hoax where we made the world think we really landed on the moon (we pulled the moon hoax off in the dessert just south of Tucson with moonlight and filters, that was the pre-digital days). Watch for some graet stuff the fraeks and i are working on in the future. ;P

LMAO, Ted. I'm really looking forward to your next surprise for the world.

I was deeply convinced the G5 was NOT a hoax, I copied and pasted the info myself from the official Belgian Canon website.

It's a true masterpiece you pulled of there, as you can see it completely fooled me. I know you're telling the truth, because I know Elvis is alive.

Despite all your efforts, Ted, the intro of the G5 will be very soon, and everybody crying "hoax, fake" will look a bit silly ...
And reality will have caught up with you... ;-)

Some of the pictures may be bogus, but could be attributed to something simple as a retailers need to meet a printer's deadline, without having the official Canon G5 picture yet.

Is it me, or you didn´t get that Ted was being ironic?

Sure I got that! But if you see this as an attack on Ted, you completely missed my sense of irony... ;-) Was just having some fun her, not at the (intentional) expense of anybody.

Only posting here because it is a recent G5 thread that people will actually check.

I was perusing a photoshop book about 4 weeks ago and it explicitly mentioned how products that are about to be announced may have to be mocked up from previous models.

Would it be a such a serious breach of integrity for Canon themselves to do this?

Or is it just not commonly done by camera manufacturers and can therefore be a method of detecting fake info?

You put it very well. :)

I really think there are two groups who are the most vocal in calling 'fake'.

Those connected with retail and want to be sure to be able to sell the cameras they have in stock plus sales people in general who are terrified of consumers actually checking into value from a time perspective instead of cooperatively sliding into the "BUY IT NOW" mentality.

And those who are desperately trying to convince themselves that they made the best use of their money after getting suckered into "BUY IT NOW" without checking around a little more.

Bart,

I also forgot to mention how we also fixed the last presidential election. The problem with the hanging chads was actually a spray on glue we secretly applied to the ballots in Florida to cause this problem. Although this is a hoax that acually worked out very well as Bush has done a much better job then we ever dreamed of.

The question that many miss here is how is a PS changed photo of an existing product to represent the new model, by the manufacture, is a hoax or false advertising. If the actual G5 that hits the retail shelf represents what was in the picture and printed specs, then it is what it is. Why get all worked up about the process, when the end result is the same...a slightly updated version of the G3.

Wish it was a hoax. If the higher pix sensor the only upgrade then I'll take the G3 if it's a couple of hundred dollars cheaper.

That's whats funny about all the hoax stuff. Someone going to the trouble to create a new "G" hoax would have come up with something more creative. The boring details that have been leaked so far tips the scales on this being the real thing vs. a hoax. I think wishful thinking has been Canon would fix all the weaknesses with the G3 in the next G. But I think that Canon will try to squeeze another year out of the current model with an extra MP, new color and name.
