Must admit the only times I used sprays (back in film days) was on conventional colour and B+W prints which required some retouching (mostly copying damaged older photos from clients) as then the spray coating would cover what would otherwise be visible surface differences between the print surface and the retouching. As I print, for archival work, using pigment inks on art acid-free watercolour paper have never even thought about using such protective sprays. Anyway - will be interesting to see results of your comparitive test with and without the spray coating.

I have encapsulated prints (colour ones, with dye inks) using "claimed" safe sleeves for the heat encapsulation process but when I did a comparison, the encapsulated dye-ink ones faded at same rate as the uncoated ones. The prints were using dye inks and the Glossy plasic type normal photo papers. I did encapsulate one made with the dye inks on acid-free cartridge paper and that fared much better - lasted as originally printed for about a year longer before visible signs of fading.

Just remembered that I did 24x20 conventional Cibachrome prints for outdoor display in all weather conditions for a client (agricultural buildings) and did spray those to be more weather proof. They were used at agricultural shows over a period of 5 years and were as good after that time as they were when first made. Wonder if any inkjet print would fare as well?

You really think it will take two full coats?
The coat I initially applied really looked very wet though not drippy.

I think that should be enough? I will place the prints on the window and see what happens.
