My NEX 5R does a synthetic click also and that can't be disabled. I've grown to accept it. The "anti-snooping" stuff is something that i hadn't realized. I guess it makes some sense.

My 5R has a mechanical shutter which of course cannot be disabled. Therefore the 5R will always make a real, non-fake noise. It also has an additional shutter; the electronic first-curtain shutter which can be disabled. That is there to prevent the effects of shutter-shock  among other reasons.
