I wanted to be very honest in my assessment so as not to foster any illusions in people's mind about the myth of a DSLR paradise... yes, great photos are possible but at an enormous cost... people should realize that.

If someone is interested in the long focal lengths that you use for wildlife photographs, then the DSLR cost (ie lenses) can be enormous.   For me, I was frustrated with getting shots of my kids doing normal activities indoors....volleyball, basketball, cheer leading, choir, piano recitals, school plays, etc.    The massive improvement in high iso quality combined with the relatively low cost of f1.8 primes made the decision easy for me.   My only regret is that it took me at least a year too long to make the switch.

If Nikon can ever get their 1 series prices in line with their actual capabilities, then this system could dramatically drop the cost of long distance shooting.
