If that was true then we wouldn't have the RX100 or RX1, because smaller sensors are cheaper and so are the corresponding lenses that cast images on them.   Sony seems to be the first to realize that there actually is a market for a premium compact camera.   The cost of an articulated screen is peanuts compared to putting a 1" or FF sensor into a compact camera along with a good lens for it.
