Misconceptions on public place photography

Reading the thread about shooting kids in a public place after being asked not to there was a number of assertions it was not illegal and the photographer would not be arrested if the police were called.

How shocked the OP would be when he found himself with up-to 6 months prison sentence in England !!

Harassment is essentially behavior that causes another person alarm or distress. If a photographer takes  images of a subject after being expressly asked not to , this would be considered harassment (multiple times knowing your were causing distress).

In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, harassment is a criminal offense, for which the penalty is up to 6 months in prison, or a fine, or both. A victim of harassment can also ask for an injunction to prevent further harassment and bring a claim for damages.
