Traditional sensors are B&W sensors, they cannot detect colour - the CFA has to filter out specific colours for each pixel. Only Foveon sensors can detect all 3 colours in each pixel.

The traditional CFA is a Bayer array which usually has another filter (AA filter) in front it to control moiré.

You can put any type of CFA you want in front of any sensor type.

Fuji came up with the CFA, Sony makes the sensors.

I simply can't find a source that says Sony makes the sensors, although that wouldn't surprise me.

Many people seem to think that Fuji no longer makes sensors but I can also find no reference for that claim.

In fact, just the opposite. Here is a quote from Wikipedia.

Just the same, no one can show proof of anything they claim.
