I've had a Powershot N for 4 months now and I'm delighted with it.

In about a third of the photos I take, the hinged LCD screen is very useful in getting away from the "standard adult eyeball"" height -- whether lower for photos of children or higher (inverted) above crowds.

The lens quality, megapixel quantity and CCD quality are very good for a point-and-shoot, especially in terms of my needs, where I often crop heavily and need the "surviving" image to be good.

The 28-220 telephoto is superb, with its wide range (and image stabilization) meeting my needs very well. My 10-year-old granddaughter has taken some superb aerobatics photos with it, among other things. The zoom ring and shutter-release ring are very easy to use no matter what the orientation of the camera.

The obvious questions are: is the N's form factor just a gimmick? Certainly not for me; it's a logical consequence of fresh thinking. And is the extra cost compared with a more conventional camera worth it? Again, definitely for my uses. Increasingly I'm taking photos that I wouldn't get around to taking with my DSLR because of its size, and I'm delighted with the results

So, well done Canon!
