My impression that they are both optically very good, but both suffer from some CA (the 14-50 mainly at the wide and, the 12-35 in general). On a Panasonic body, both should be corrected.

Sharpness, contrast, and colour seem to be the same, though I have never done scientific tests.

On a Panasonic body, you can use the aperture ring of the 14-50. Together with manual fucusing, this provides a very classic photographic experience.

Thanks - that is good to hear.  As I said I had only tried landscapes with it.  I never considered it as a low-light option.  I don't mind a bit of manual focusing and love the aperture ring on the L1.  Just wish they'd kept that as standard on all lenses.

Time to dust it off and have a play!
