Is it normal for images on EOS 70D not as sharp as Sony RX100?

I just purchased an EOS 70D with 18-55mm lens, however even when set at maximum resolution, and the same 20.2 Megapixels, the images on the EOS 70D don't appear as sharp as the same images taken by my Sony RX100 compact - is this normal, or is there something wrong with my 70D???

The images appear less clearly defined both on the LCD monitor, and on a computer.

Could the images on the Sony RX100 appear clearer because this particular camera is using Carl Ziess lens?

Or is there something wrong with my 24 hour old Canon EOS 70D?
