Re: Hugowolf - can you clarify

Sal would have more information than me on this. I am a Windows user for my printing. I use Mac for other things. There have been numerous reports of Epson drivers being replaced by generic Mac drivers, which can lead to a loss of some of the printer's functionality.

It would seem with your version of Mac OS and the r2000, you have no choice but to use the Apple downloader/updater. With the Epson Pro 3880, for example, you would download the driver directly from the Epson site.

My question is, do I need to delete the old printer BEFORE I install the new one, or does it matter ? I don't want deleting it to take out the driver with it if that is the one I need for the new printer.

You do not have to uninstall it, but it is serving no purpose and just cluttering up your computer. You may as well get rid of it before installing the new one.

And I would reinforce what Sal has said: you do not want to install a generic Apple driver for the new printer – it will cause problems.

I thought I already had the right driver for the Epson Stylus Photo R2000. But now I am confused. When we updated to ML OS 10..8.4 a few months ago, my tech updated the printer driver for my Epson Stylus Photo R1800, and it's been worked fine for about 6 months. (It's being replaced because head and pads need replacing after 6 years.) The printer utility on my R1800 shows v9.00 (9.14 ). The apple driver link (referred to on the epson site), below also shows this same v.9 for the Epson Stylus Photo R2000. Is this the "generic Apple driver " you are talking about ??? The apple support link below shows "#epson" at the end, which indicates to me that is is specific to the Epson printers ?

When I go to the Epson site (link below) there seems to be a new update for OX X August 8,2013., v2.15.

So can you clarify what's going on for me ? I am "tech-less" (since my tech moved and there is no home support in my town), so I really want to try to get this right.

Any clarification will be much appreciated, as I don't understand which of these (or both) that I need ?

Thanks a bunch guys !
