Will photography always be a disappointing hobby?

I hope it's ok to ask philosophical questions that may not have a clear answer. It's not my photos that I'm disappointed with, it's the lack of connection to them.

when someone comes to me and asks me to shoot a promo video for something, I love to put together scenes that draw the audience in so they connect with my characters and they feel what I want them to. For example, I shot a Christmas promo for underprivileged kids. My daughter was the main character, she knows she's not underprivileged, but she still won't watch it because it makes her sad. Friends who saw it said it made them cry, to which I replayed, "I was supposed to to!"

This is really hard with a single image if not impossible! It's like trying to catch a unicorn, can it be done, does it exist??

Is their a certain genre of photography I could study and practice to get better results?
