The basic differences I see between the Canon choice and the RX100 are:

Longer zoom range (5X) for the Canon

Faster at long end of the zoom for the Canon

RX100 is lighter and smaller

RX100 has a larger sensor, and should have more dynamic range

RX100 has more resolution

Probably comes down to whether or not you value the increased image quality, and reduced size/weight of the RX100 over the faster/longer zoom lens of the Canon.

Or the built-in OVF on the Canon.  Realistically, the G12 is a jacket pocket camera compared to shirt pocket size for the Sony, which to me is the most important practical difference.
