Taking the NEX-5R with the 16-50, Was that a mistake?

I bought the camera and I really wish to use both RAW+JPEG feature, for some post-processing later at home.

I came across this article - http://www.photozone.de/sony_nex/842-sony1650f3556oss

they really go down on the lens, especially for its distortion and vingetting, and i have second toughts about it.

I took the 1650 for its mobility, small size in standby, as a day-day, all-around photography, for mainly family photos at home and trips.

The lighting at home isnt too good (max f3.5 but i hoped for better).

Will getting some sigma lens for good price at some kind of mint condition give me better results?

Im working on mac with aperture. I have no lens correction feature there.

I can do one of the following:

1. get lightroom, tough its very..."dark" in colors, and Im not sure I need it. just for the lens correction feature.

2. use dxo for that, but how do I save the correction in raw format, so i can continue editing it on aperture (using raw, not jpeg) ?

3. get other lens.

What would give me better results for my needs?

I kinda regret that maybe I shouldve taken the 18-55, its much bigger but gets better ranks over the internet.
