Quote from m4/3 blog

Photozone has published a new review of OLYMPUS 17MM F/1.8 lens.

This lens is a very puzzling one. If you look through many reviews of a product, they tend to agree on each other and a pattern (or two) starts to form which ultimately becomes the impression(s) for that product. And camera lenses are no exception. Except for the OLYMPUS 17MM F/1.8 that is. Why do some reviews rate this lens as brilliant while others say barely average, I have no idea.

So which impression does this reviewer come up with? Its verdict starts off with a statement that says “The OLYMPUS 17MM F/1.8 may not be a stellar performer but…”. So this reviewer doesn’t think this is a brilliant lens, but it is a decent one. When to compare this lens to the PANASONIC 20MM f/1.7 lens, it is better built and it does feature a nicer looking bokeh but it isn’t as sharp.

IMO, this lens features a better micro contrasts, a perfect 35mm view (for those who likes this focal length), nice manual focus mechanism, very nicely built while remaining compact, and more than sufficient sharpness is enough to deserve the price Olympus is asking for.
