I think Canon is on to something with the SL1- it's a great alternative to the mirrorless brigade, but the lack of small and light lenses seems to sort of kill that idea.  I think a small range of primes or even reduced size zoom lens, would really add to the momentum of the SL1. What say you?

My vote is Other:  EF-S 22mm f/2.8 pancake.  Similar to Pentax DA 21 f/3.2.  20mm I think is a bit too wide for a travel/walk-around.  The classic for full-frame is 35, the equivalent for EF-S would be 22mm.  f/2 would be super, but I don't see that being possible as a pancake on a mirror camera.

re other choices:

  • I don't think 24-50 is a useful range on APS-C
  • If "reduced size" or "pancake" 18-55 zoom were possible, someone would have.  Even the EF-M 18-55 is close to the size of the EF-S 18-55.
  • EF or EF-S 30 f/1.8 would be good for APS-C, better matching a normal prime.  But the EF 35 f/2 is close enough and an EF-S model wouldn't necessarily be smaller or less expensive.

IMHO, YMMV
