Re: Switching to Nikon Brand, holy trinity question

To a large extent it comes down to what you want to do with your lenses - or what you want your lenses to do for you! Some other answers to your question ignore your comment about f4 and price you are able and willing to pay - so stick with the f4's unless you really need to shoot wide open - 2.8 to 4 is only one stop and lenses suggested by dustyj all have VR.  These lenses constitute my "holy trinity" along with a 50mm f1.4 and 105mm f2.8 macro.

Comments:  the 16-35 is great for architectural work and distortion can be corrected with something like DxO software;

24-120 is a good travel lens and I keep this on my D800 most of the time

70-200 for most telephoto work (sometimes I crave 400 plus but then the TC17 goes on and I live with the optical degradation!!)

Good luck
