I have both the D70s and D200 and I've actually had decent luck with both cameras not having any kind of failures on me (yet)

There is no doubt that the D200 is sturdier built than the d70s/D70, though.

As for the switching lenses while on, thing - I generally try to make sure that the camera is off.  Just this weekend, I accidentally left my D40 on while taking off the lens and actually didn't have any issue, though.
