D800E 1.2x crop mode and dynamic range loss

I've been experimenting with the Nikon 35mm F1.8 DX lens on the D800E in 1.2 crop mode, and it seems to work great. It becomes a very useful 42mm lens generating a 25M pixel file, jpeg or raw. The lens does not seem to vignette at all with its focal length cropped  80%.

This little plastic prime lens is very sharp and light. I used it frequently on the D7000.

However, I know that the D800 sensor loses DR with increasing ISO or reduced surface area. Does anyone know how much DR is lost in this crop mode? I want to use the lens on vacation but will need plenty of DR for the outdoor scenery.
