It wouldn't be a mistake unless they couldn't afford it, in which case they wouldn't buy it in the first place. It has many happy users, some of whom have taken the time to say so in this thread.

I have done my research and used the 17mm and it is a great looking lens and it can AF fast.

We give and take. I check posts because I own the lens, therefore I am able to express an opinion on it. I have many years experience and many other lenses to base my opinion on, so I feel qualified to offer it. Why would you tell me not to?
