looking into the infamous helios 44 in m42 mount.

anyone have any experience using m42 lenses on a 5d mark III? any tips you can give me?

I've used two M42 lenses on a 5DMkII, which is basically the same camera with regard to lens mount.

One tip is if the mirror hangs on any part of the rear of the lens, remove the lens, and don't keep testing to see if it is hitting. Some lenses protrude to far into the mount and the mirror hangs. I had to file the rear end of one lens to provide enough room for the mirror to pass. I've never used the lens you are referring to, so I don't know if it is an issue.

I used one of the cheap M42 to EOS adapters without any focus confirm. Live View works great for manual focus.

Thanks for the tip! I'll keep an eye out for that.
