If you don't want to spend rest of your life with sloooow scanning, try to photo your old films. Good DSLR with macrolens (or standard prime with macro rings) and film holder is much much faster and probably also better than at least 12 years old dedicated SCSI film scanners or todays flatbed scanners which are primarily used for scanning documents. I have digitized this way about 10 000 frames (slides, color and B/W negatives) last year. It is worth to make a try and then decide.
