It won't come off. Try the 3M tape first.

I've not needed to look at the buttons since the second week of ownership; muscle memory took over. Seriously, blindfold yourself and press the buttons a few dozen times per day. Use the tape until you get used to it. If not, Sharpie it.

Muscle memory ought to be there as I used the NEX-5 for two years before getting the 5R and the buttons are in the same place.  The problem is that I frequently hold the camera in different positions to get different angles and that's the time I find them difficult to find

Still don't understand why Sony made this change in the 5R, and even more confused why they haven't changed it in the 5T, however
