Software cannot compensate for lens shapness.

The main advantage with software is that for most programs you can download a 30 days trial version. Try it yourself, see how it works for you.

My main focus as a photographer is to get the best pictures out of camera. Of course you can then use software to boost  the image a little. But I invest mostly in lens and time spent with my camera on the field, not in front of the computer. It depends a lot on your style of shooting of course but I find that the time spent searching for a nice landscape, finding the right hour and angle for my shot is just as rewarding as the final image. Don't loose the shooting pleasure just because you want the picture to look perfect and spend hours in front of the computer for that.
