Re: Ulric, question

I own:
Canon FD 50mm 1.8
Canon F'D 50 mm 3.5 MACRo
Canon FD 70-210 f4
Nikon 55mm f2.8 MICRO (one of Nikon's sharpest lenses)
Minolta RoKkor 58mm f1.4

I agree that the contrast and sharpness fall off on the FD lenses when shot wide open. I shot RAW and bump up contrast in Lightroom.
The one lens that really has surprised me is the Canon FD 70-210. I have shot some amazingly good soccer pics with this lens. It has the pull zoom and twist focus on one ring, very smooth action. I had purchased the Panasonic 45-200 lens and shot both of them side by side. The pics from the Canon FD were IMHO better. The action and use was also more pleasing to me. Keep in mind it is a huge cannon of a lens. At $60 it was a steal.
Nikon made a similar lens 70-210 I believe.
For video the older manual focus lenses are nice because focus by wire is not as smooth.
