As promised my findings on the Nikon water guard WG-AS3 for the D700 regarding the movement of the flash body in the hot shoe. This little thing really worked exactly as I had hoped for. Now there is no movement at all, it really fits tight. Because of this, the red light beam now fits exactly on the focus point which results in perfect focus, so no more backfocusing for me.

With the water guard there is absolutely no need to turn off the af assist beam. Yes, it costs 30 bucks, but for me it is worth it.
