I did the repair outside on my patio table on a clear Sydney day. The parts are not on the lawn, that the table cloth. I took the opportunity to clean the dust out of the lens and it is like new again.

The EFS17-85 is basically the only lens I use on my 20D now the 6D is my main camera. It is the oldest lens I have with the most shots of all lenses.

You don't happen to have step-by-step instructions for that do you?  Looks pretty daunting to dive into that w/o some guidance.
