One of the reasons you pay big money for an f2.8 zoom is to shoot a significant amount of photos with shallow dof. I've owned the Nikon 24-70 f2.8 for several years and have been extremely happy with the quality of the bokeh. It may not be up there with the very best primes, but it's still creamy, with smooth color transitions.

I don't own the Tamron but have examined a lot of shallow dof shots -- the Tamron is simply not in the same league.

If bokeh's important to you, you might decide it's worth the extra money for the Nikon.
