Re: Can anyone compare the Tamron 18-250 to the Pentax 55-300

I have both the Pentax 55-300 and the Pentax 18-250. I believe that the Pentax 18-250 was licensed from the Tamron optical design, and therefore my experience might have some bearing. My experience with the Pentax 18-250 is the same -- it is really very soft at 250, though quite good from 18-150. I find that the 55-300 is sufficiently sharp wide open, even at 300mm and f/5.8. I'm quite happy with it -- that's what I bought it for! Of course, I do wish for a little bit wider aperture than f/5.8 at the long end, but on the other hand, the lens is reasonably light. It focuses faster than the 18-250, too, and not as loud (well, nearly anything is not as loud as the 18-250, which sounds more like revving a motorbike than focusing a camera).
