depth of field with kit lens

Hello. I consider buying my first CSC, and I thought about the PEN E-PM2. I understand that it is harder to achieve shallow depth of field with the 4/3 than with the APS-C. I also read that this can be solved by buying lens with higher aperture, but I can't afford myself right now buying more lens besides the kit lens supplied with the camera. My question is whether I can achieve nice shallow depth of field with the kit lens, or maybe I should go for a camera with an APS-C sensor?
