The trick to pulling a lot of these images off is to go looking for subjects early in the morning, before they get their metabolism going. Unfortunately it's been really hot here, so I had less than 20 minutes to shoot this critter before it took off. The background is just a book with a very reflective cover, chosen to fool you into thinking that there is sky behind the bee. Tech specs: Canon 1D MKIII (F11, 1/160, ISO 100) + a Canon MPE-65mm macro lens (@ ~3x) + a Canon MT-24EX macro twin flash.
