Strange water formation in long exposure

I would not expect to see a faint trail as I do not believe a single water drop can be seen at that distance.

The drop looks fairly large and it's seen against a dark background. I would suspect a single water drop like this would be visible as a single line. I can't offer an explanation of what's causing the strobing. I would send the photo to Canon and see what they have to say. I'm not implying that there is a fault with the camera. A peculiar set of conditions arose here that resulted in this water drop strobing. One of their engineers might recognize the cause of this right away.

In any event, I find this thread very interesting. I'm a Nikon shooter but have never come across anything like this in my long exposures. I would really like to know what's causing this. Right now I'm stumped.

Send the image to Canon and see what they have to say.
