I was actually considering switching to a NEX system to replace my 60D system. On the surface I could have most of the utility I have now with half the bulk. Then I thought about the flash, the specialty lenses that I don't have but might want, the battery life, the lack of a fully articulating screen, etc. I decided I would not be happy giving it all up, but might want a NEX to use when I wanted lighter or as a back up.
Of course, the SL1 could be cheaper and better as a second camera, which is how I got over to this forum. I'm still on the fence over this, but I'm keeping the dSLR as my primary camera.
It can add up to be a lot of money... keep your 60D. The NEX isn't a DSLR replacement (IMO) and you'll most likely end up purchasing a DSLR again.
Thanks, Joey. The only way I'd consider NEX is as a second camera. An SL1 with a 40mm could be the better choice even as a second camera. Some of the features of the NEX, like the sweep panorama and the hand held twilight mode keep it in the running for a second camera, maybe a 5n with a 16mm just for that and a lens or two for travel and socializing. Of course the dSLR has its biggest advantage in social pictures being able to focus and expose without blasting everyone's eyes out with flash.
No worries! The NEX is definitely feature-packed. If I were travelling and couldn't afford to lug around my DSLR gear, I would never buy a P&S camera (as a secondary) knowing how much better the NEX system is.
