Drop $350 on a 45mm prime when you've already got the 14-42mm kit lens?

"The Oly E-PM2 kit comes with the (non-X) 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 lens. I'm eyeballing the Oly 45mm f/1.8. Surely the 45mm is much better quality, and f/1.8 is very convenient."

You are discussing the Olympus 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 IIR lens.  (The original 14-42 wasn't much good.)

A better choice would be the Panasonic 14-45 kit lens; nearly as good in optical quality as the Oly. 45.

Additionally there's the new 14-42 II from Panasonic. High-quality.  Interestingly this lens has a plastic lens-mount if bought as part of a kit. But if purchased in a box, it has a metal lens-mount.
