I get the impression most of the people who are responding here are seasoned pros or amateurs who are more advanced than I am.  The point/query I am making here is most of the photographers I know - and many are less knowledgeable and/or sophisticated than me seem to prefer multiple lenses over a single lens.  Then when I'm out shooting with them, they fumble around changing lenses (or miss a good shot because they don't have a good lens) while I can focus on taking photos.  For these kinds of beginners, why don't they prefer a 18-200?
