Lenses are judged at their worst.  So not corrected at f2.8.  They generally also show performance at f5.6 but not always.  Realistically most folk will be shooting in daylight at f5.6-f8 but that is not always the case.

If the performance is great corrected then that counts for something but may or may not be accounted for in the final conclusion in a review.  Lets face it the lenses these days are pretty damn good compared with the junk that came before.  But high MPIX sensors really bring out weaknesses.

Realistically most folks use their 24mpix camera to display web photos.  If you are shooting at the Grand Canyon and making large prints you may choose to use a better lens. If you are shooting a day at the park this lens is very adequate for most. However I find a 24mm lens a bit wide for a general purpose lens.
