World Youth Day - Brazil (pictures/comments)

Hi all,

Unless you were living under a rock this last week, you know that the Pope visited Rio de Janeiro, and was behind the World Youth Day (should have been called Week). I myself have no religious affiliation of any kind, but even from a sociological and cultural point of view, the event was impactful. In fact, it gained political overtones since the topic of the recent protests came up, with the Pope proclaiming support. There was an unspoken irony in this, since the general feeling was that the Brazilian president would be using the Pope's visit for her own agenda, and instead it seemed as if he had turned the tables on her.

Anyhow, the reason I am bringing this up, is that all of it literally took place right in front of my home! Copacabana, the large 4-km beach and avenue where it all happened is precisely where I live. In some ways, this was a huge problem, since they put on very loud music all day and far into the night. It was made worse, because the Pope was initially scheduled to only appear in Copacabana for two days, the famous Vigil, but due to strong rains, the other areas were covered in mud, and all four days of his visit were transferred to Copacabana also. Ugh.

You may have seen images in the news, but I took advantage to take my own pictures of the youths, people, and personal impressions, and posted them in my Facebook. So that you understand what this has to do with this forum, the camera in question was my Rebel T4i purchased last year.

I have three albums of 7 to 19 pictures, all my own, and all commented. You do NOT need to be on my Facebook 'friends' list as I set the permissions to 'Public', but you do need a Facebook account (and be logged in) to see them. I hope you find them interesting.

As a general comment, I am aware they are of limited photographic quality, and they are what they are. Still, as I have only been taking pictures for less than a year, if you have any constructive comments, by all means.
