- If I try to shoot video while the screen is black, it won't let me record and the camera will keep beeping as long as I keep half pressed the shutter button.

Looks like the "sensor" for screen rotation is damaged (as indicated by the upside down image when screen faces forward. But any suggestions, ideas, etc are welcome.

Well. It really helps to try to explains one's problems. I came to the conclusion on screen rotation while writing the original post. The problem was indeed that sensor, so when closing the screen with LCD away from body the camera, it was detecting the screen was getting closed with the lcd towards the body camera, thus shutting it down. That was algo the reason for the beeps while trying to shoot video (you're not allowed to shoot video using only the viewfinder).

So I opened the hinge enclosure (two small screews only), played with the electronics and it is working now (that was mere luck!!!). Maybe there was a loose wire or contact, so if it fails again I'll give it a better look with the microscope at work...
