Re: Travel Camera Fits In Your Back Pocket

Your ratings are pretty close to mine.  Although I'd give it one more step higher for low light.  It's clearly not as good as my S90 for low light and high ISO; but it is surprisingly good at ISO 1600.  I did some desperation shots inside a very dark basilica in Quito, Equador, and was pleased at how many came out well enough to print for an album.

I bought an SX260HS, and returned it as I didn't like the appearance of the images. Even though they were shot outdoors in good light.  The SX260HS flash is better behaved, and its screen has a 4:3 aspect ratio; but I marked it down on lens speed and IQ.

I also tried the Panasonic ZS15.  Better ergonomics and a nice 4:3 screen; but color rendition was not nearly as good.  Early growth foliage and grass has a strong yellow green component; but the ZS15 made it look fluorescent.

After all that, I have concluded that the SX230HS is the best travel zoom to date and I can live with the flash trying to pop up at turn on (I hold it down) and the screen is sharp and clear so it works fine despite its 16:9 aspect ratio.

SX230HS (foreground) with modified Flip-bac grip.  S90 with Franiec grip in background.

I have gotten so used to holding my left index finger over the flash at turn on that I don't even think about it anymore.  Both cameras in the shot above are fitted with neck cords rather than wrist straps.
