Depending upon what I am shooting, and the light conditions, and the lens, I shoot mostly in M or A, and occasionally in S. I do believe one needs to understand M in order to use A and S correctly. I did not learn to use M in the "old days," being a late-starter with SLRs, but I learned M and A from my wife, who never shoots action, and then learned S/Tv from instructors.

I have never used P, nor do I understood the need for it.

I wear a badge and pistol, and, primarily with 7D cameras, shoot evidentiary images at night, which incorporates elements of portrait, macro, still life, landscape, architecture, PJ, and occasional action.
