Pardon me for doing a little trolling but, IMHO, the Industrial is slowly going insane in search of the magic property of increases sales to the complete ignorance of optical physics. Or are we really expecting lenses made of pure Unobtainium not subject to laws of diffraction and other optical abberation to match these astounding sensor absolute resolutions?

nope you're thinking so in the early 2010's

higher Mp camers say in the 50 to 100 or more won't be about the individual pixel importance but more about maximizing the micro contrast and detail at the limits of the lenses combined with your output medium size.  there's a finite limit to the maximum output size given the same observer distance of 35mm sensor's - once that's really reached it's all about improving the overall image versus the obsessing over per pixel quality.
