Why are mirrorless cameras so expensive?

Olympus OM-D E-M5-$1300
Sony NEX-7-$1250

Fuji XE-1-$1200

Nikon D3100 (SLR)-$450

(approx. cost of these cameras with kit lens)

I did own the XE-1 and do own the Nikon D3100. Based on image quality, portability, available lenses and up to date technology, I would select the Nikon every time. Why do the other cameras cost more than twice as much? I would love an explanation.
